Taking part – what do I need to know?

How can my child take part in ReSET?

The ReSET team is working with multiple schools in and around London, with a focus on engaging students in Year 8 or 9. If your child’s school is taking part in the ReSET programme, your child would have received an invitation to participate.

To enable your child’s involvement in this valuable project, it is essential that you have completed and submitted a ReSET consent form either to the research team directly or through your child’s school. The consent form ensures that all participants’ rights and well-being are protected, and provides more information about what participation would mean for your child.

What does participation involve for my child?

The ReSET project involves random allocation of either Year 8 or Year 9 students from your child’s school to participate, while the other year group will serve as the control group. Random allocation ensures that the research findings are unbiased and allows for a more accurate assessment of the impact of taking part in ReSET.

The students selected to take part in ReSET will have the opportunity to take part in 8 x weekly group-based workshops which aim to enhance mental well-being and equip them with essential coping skills and strategies to develop good social relationships. Meanwhile, the control group, though not directly involved in ReSET, plays a crucial role in the research project by providing a baseline for comparison. Their participation allows us to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention and gain deeper insights into its potential benefits.

Both groups of students will be invited to take part in multiple research assessments with one of our research team over the course of a year, which consist of a variety of tasks and questionnaires. Through taking part in these assessments, your child can contribute to important research and potentially help shape innovative approaches to support mental health and well-being within schools and the wider community.
