Primary Goal
The primary goal of the ReSET project is to develop a hybrid, preventative intervention that targets transdiagnostic mechanisms underlying vulnerability to mental health problems. The intervention integrates aspects of emotional processing skills (i.e. interoception and emotion perception and regulation) and social relationships (i.e. Interpersonal Psychotherapy— Adolescent Skills Training; IPT-AST). To this end, we address three key research questions in this research project:
1. Can this novel intervention lead to improved mental health and well-being outcomes in adolescents of high general psychopathology risk, compared to those in the non-intervention arm?
2. Is the programme’s impact on wellbeing and mental health mediated by changes in emotional processing and social relationships?
3. What are the bi-directional relationships between core emotional processes and social relationships as they evolve naturally over time? How are these linked to adolescent mental health?
Read on to find out how interoception1, emotion perception2, emotion regulation3, and social relationships4 are related to mental health.
